Every man wants to assert himself loudly and express his individuality through an eye-catching accessory. There is no better way to stand out among the crowd than a scintillating biker jewellery piece. While biker rings and necklaces are heavily utilised by non-biker individuals, bracelets remain unfairly ignored. Meanwhile, wrist jewellery adorned with skull detail will undoubtedly make you feel bold and confident. Stay with us and you’ll find out why bikers wear skull items and which options are in fashion today.

Why skulls?

Skulls have been known and respected since the dawn of civilisation. Ancient tribes worshipped skulls and bones hoping they would protect them from evil spirits. People noticed that bones remain in existence long past a person’s departure. They started believing that bones have something to do with immortality and resurrection. Since then, skulls obtained a dual meaning – at the same time they signify death and resistance to death.

In the 20th century, the popularity of skull symbolism experienced a second wind. Bikers and subcultures that share similar ideas adopted the ancient notion of skulls and diluted it with their own significance. For bikers, skull jewellery is a kind of amulet designed to keep death away. There is even a legend that death leaves a skull mark when she wants to take somebody with her. But if a person already rocks this mark, the Grim Reaper will retreat.

Materials

The king of all materials for jewellery making is silver, especially 925 sterling silver. This alloy is very durable and attractive despite carrying an inexpensive price tag. Every man can afford a burly biker skull bracelet cast from solid sterling silver. Pure silver doesn’t have required properties (it is too flexible, soft, and can easily bend). For this reason, you won’t see a 999 stamp on jewellery items (999 corresponds to pure silver).

Despite the fact that gold is the most popular metal for jewellery, it is used rarely to craft skull bracelets. First of all, gold is much expensive therefore, a massive men’s bracelet will cost a fortune. Secondly, skull jewellery is mostly worn by subculture followers who do not accept “warm” metals. Goths, for instance, regard gold as unworthy because it is associated with the sun. Moon metals, on the contrary, have magical features that amp up the totem function of skull jewellery. Gold (or gold plating) might be added only as a complementary metal.

Skull bracelets are often bejewelled with gems or inexpensive precious and semi-precious stones. Wrist skull jewellery with hot-red rubies for eyes will totally sweep you off your feet.

Designs

The shelves of virtual and actual stores are crammed with a variety of skull bracelets. You can come across chain bracelets with skull pendants or audacious items comprised of skull-adorned links. Featuring luxurious weight and solid appearance, such body ornaments will bring a taste of charisma into your look.

Besides all-metal pieces, you can opt for a leather bracelet enhanced with silver elements. Normally, leather is dyed in black, dark grey or brown; such finishing is a perfect backdrop for lustrous silver skulls.
