I Came By: On the red carpet with Hugh Bonneville, Kelly Macdonald and Babak Anvari

I Came By is a tense psychological thriller from British-Iranian filmmaker Babak Anvari. The story follows an anonymous young graffiti artist called Toby (George Mackay) who breaks into the homes of the wealthy, takes what he wants and then leaves his oversized tag scrawled across their walls.

This premise then falters when he discovers something horrific in the home of his latest victim, former judge Sir Hector Blake (Hugh Bonneville). An elite old-boy network linked to Blake offers huge scope for protection when the police are then called and his beautiful home is searched. Meanwhile a lengthy cat-and-mouse game follows, filling the screen with a barrage of twists and turns that then endanger Toby himself and others around him.

The Upcoming had the pleasure of interviewing the cast and filmmaker at the Netflix premiere of I Came By at Ham Yard Hotel, London.

Hugh Bonneville talked to us about the darker side of his character, what an unexpected role it was for him to play and his close collaboration with Anvari.

Kelly Macdonald talked to us about her role in the film, how she approached the character and what it was like to work alongside George Mackay (in his role as her son, Toby), Hugh Bonneville and visionary filmmaker Anvari.

We also spoke to Babak Anvari about his approach to writing this film, casting his characters and collaborating with composer Isobel Waller-Bridge.
