“In this business, the better the script is, the harder it is to get it made”: Thomas Jane on Troppo

Wildly successful Australian crime thriller Troppo is now coming to UK audiences via Amazon Freevee. The gripping series is adapted from New York Times bestselling author Candice Fox’s Crimson Lake. Set in the tropics of Far North Queensland, its title is a reference to the Aussie slang term for someone driven crazy by the tropical heat. Thomas Jane (who also serves as executive producer) stars as disgraced ex-cop Ted who forms an unlikely alliance with eccentric private investigator Amanda (Nicole Chamoun) to solve a bizarre murder and missing person’s case.

The Upcoming caught up with Jane about the appeal of the book adaptation, developing his character of Ted, playing off Chamoun as Amanda, and the challenges of shooting on location Down Under. We also discussed his diverse career, from acting in The Punisher and 2002 romcom The Sweetest Thing to producing through his company Renegade Entertainment, and his future projects.

Troppo is released on Amazon Freevee on 20th May 2022.
