The much-anticipated results of the 25th British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs) were announced on 4th December 2022 at a glamorous event at Old Billingsgate in London. The Upcoming were lucky enough to be there on the blue carpet to catch some time with the illustrious guests and chat about the making of their films and their award nominations.

Letitia Wright spoke about her role in The Silent Twins ahead of winning the award for Best Joint Lead Performance.

We had the pleasure of speaking with the incredible Samantha Morton before she received the Richard Harris Award for Outstanding Contribution by an Actor to British Film.

Rory Kinnear stopped to chat about acting opposite Jessie Buckley in Alex Garland’s Men, and their nomination for Best Joint Lead Performance.

Sophie Hyde spoke about directing Emma Thompson in Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, which was nominated for multiple awards. 

Katy Brand also spoke about writing the screenplay for the film.

While the dashing Daryl McCormack gave us some insight into playing a male escort in the taboo-busting film.

Tom Hardiman discussed being nominated for Best Debut Director for his film Medusa Deluxe.

Seemab Gul spoke about directing short film Sandstorm and being nominated for Best Short.

Writer Emma Donoghue told us about the adaptation of her book, The Wonder, starring Florence Pugh, and its nomination for Best British Independent Film.

Director Philip Barantini gave us some insight into being on the jury this time around, and his sequel to Boiling Point.

Stephen Woolley talked about making Living with the legend that is Bill Nighy, which was nominated for Best British Independent Film.

Safia Oakley-Green chatted to us about starring in The Origin ahead of winning Best Breakthrough Performance.

Aisling Franciosi spoke about her role in God’s Creatures alongside Paul Mescal, and being nominated for Best Supporting Performance.

Lukas Dhont explained the story and inspiration behind Close and his excitement about the film being nominated for Best International Independent Film.

Angelo Tijssens and Michiel Dhont also spoke about writing and producing Close.

Sadie Frost stopped to talk to us about her experience of being on the BIFA jury and her own long career, including becoming a director, with the forthcoming documentary Twiggy on its way to screens.

Tamara Lawrance shared some thoughts about working on The Silent Twins before winning Best Joint Lead Performance alongside Letitia Wright.

The charming Chris Hayward and David Earl shared their reflections on being nominated for Best Debut Screenwriter for Brian and Charles.

Rupert Majendie also spoke about being nominated for Breakthrough Producer for the film.

Ben Bailey Smith chatted about hosting the awards and his own current projects.

Amelia Gething caught us up on starring in Emily and being nominated for Best Ensemble with her costars.
