Evolution Mallorca 2023: An interview with founder Sandra Lipski

Founded in 2012 by Sandra Lipski, the Evolution Mallorca Film Festival 2023 is now in its 12th year and is a collaborative platform to showcase international and diverse filmmakers. The programme, which ran from 18th until 24th October, involved numerous screenings, filmmaker Q and As and various award schemes within the celebrations.

This year, a spotlight has been put upon women in leadership, with many female filmmakers at the forefront of the line-up, including Spanish filmmaker Isabel Coixet, UK filmmaker Sophie Barthes and American director Nicol Paone. This aspect is something Lipski is keen to champion within the festival, which also included a hosted Women and Leadership Panel for the second year running.

The Upcoming had the pleasure of speaking to the founder about the inspiration behind starting the festival, the building bricks from which it has grown, what people could expect from this year and what it means to champion the culture of film.
