“After 60 years of American and English adaptations, the fact that it’s made by French people in France with French actors really makes the difference”: Louis Garrel, Vincent Cassel, François Civil and Martin Bourboulon on The Three Musketeers – Milady

The second part of this French adaptation of The Three Musketeers from filmmaker Martin Bourboulon, based on the 1844 novel by Alexandre Dumas, forges an epic drama based around love and tragedy against a backdrop of political unrest and the volatile rumblings of the French Revolution.

In this new chapter, when Constance De Bonacieux (Lyna Khoudri) is abducted in front of D’Artagnan (François Civil), he makes it his quest to find her. He pulls together the forces of his fellow musketeers and encounters the mysterious Milady De Winter (Eva Green) who tells him more about her whereabouts. His hunt to rescue her leads them into a series of action-packed sword fights, scenes of battle and raging fires. An epic cinematographic masterpiece fills the screens as the musketeers stay true to their word, “One for all and all for one.”

The Upcoming had the pleasure of speaking to Bourboulon about what he brings to this next adventure and the incredible landscape he had to work with to bring more depth, tragedy and mystery to the narrative.

Francois Civil talked to us about his returning role as D’Artagnan and where we see him now that he’s received a knighthood from the King. We also see what effect the mysterious Milady has on him and in his quest to find Constance.

We also spoke to Louis Garrel and Vincent Cassel about their roles and new chapters in this film and how they prepared for the scenes when there so much tragedy, love and chaos. We also discussed what sets it apart as a new adaptation and makes it so unique.
