Kula Shaker to release new album Natural Magick with original line-up

Kula Shaker have announced the release of their seventh work, Natural Magick, set for the 2nd of February. This is their first album to feature all four original members since 1998. It includes 13 tracks that blend psychedelic narratives, pop elements with a cosmic twist and mood-lifting mantras. The album is reflective of the band’s well-known style and wants to vibrate in tune with the rapidly changing pace of modern life.

The four-piece published their latest single, and title track, on 5th January, accompanied by a vibrant music video. This new release closely follows their summer song Waves and the lively, Bollywood-inspired Indian Record Player.

Kula Shaker’s live performances have transcended traditional concerts, becoming events where a potent exchange of energy with the audience is palpable. These performances are described as more than just music shows but as unifying events for like-minded individuals.

The album also marks the return of Jay Darlington, the band’s keyboard wizard, who spent a decade with Oasis and the Gallaghers. His return completes the circle, reuniting the classic lineup of Kula Shaker for this album.

“It was one of those fortuitous moments of synchronicity,” says singer Crispian Mills, “When we first reformed in 2007, Jay was still in Oasis, but at the end of last year the intertwining paths of fates brought us back together. There’s an excitement and momentum you feed off in these situations. Two days after Jay did his first official gig back with us at Shepherd’s Bush Empire last December, we were in the studio recording new songs.”

Named after a 10th-century South Indian monarch, Kula Shaker initially hoisted their banner of vintage eccentricity and mystical soundscapes during the peak of britpop. With hits such as Tattva and Hush from their multi-platinum album K, they captured the spotlight. Now, in 2024, the band is set to make a grand return, armed with their unique blend of music and mysticism, heralding the launch of Natural Magick.

This chapter in the band’s life is very much driven by live energy and that connection with the audiences which comes with it,” explains Mills of the band’s approach. “It was very similar to the way we recorded K, back when we only had half an hour to blow people away, and recording much of it in-between shows while touring.”
