Vue to screen Italian box office hit There’s Still Tomorrow in UK and Ireland cinemas

Vue, the largest privately owned cinema operator in Europe, is set to bring Italian box office sensation There’s Still Tomorrow (C’È Ancora Domani) to its UK and Ireland screens on 26th April 2024. Directed and led by Paola Cortellesi, the film has already made a significant impact in Italy, surpassing the likes of Barbie and Oppenheimer in box office revenue and becoming the third-largest Italian film in the last decade. Additionally, it holds the title of the largest Italian film directed by a woman in history. This comedy-drama unfolds in post-war Rome, highlighting the struggles against poverty, domestic violence and toxic masculinity through the lens of a woman’s quest for empowerment and change.

The narrative is set in 1946 Rome, a city navigating the aftermath of World War II and the verge of granting women the right to vote. Delia, portrayed by Cortellesi, is the central character caught in the traditional roles of wife and mother while dreaming of a better life for herself and her daughter. The film has been praised for its contemporary take on neorealism, blending challenging themes with humour and a modern soundtrack featuring the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.

Vue’s decision to distribute There’s Still Tomorrow marks a new venture for the company which usually focuses on pre-school programming, concerts and sporting events. The success of the film in Vue’s Italian locations prompted the cinema chain to offer its UK and Ireland audience a wider selection of content.

Cortellesi expressed her excitement about the UK and Ireland release, thanking her production partners Wildside, Vision Distribution and Vue for their support. “I am so happy to know that my film There’s Still Tomorrow will also be distributed in the UK and Ireland. I would like to thank everyone who supported my film in Italy and now in Europe: production partners Wildside and Vision Distribution, and Vue for choosing my directorial debut! I really hope the audience will love it,” said Cortellesi.

Tim Richards, Vue’s founder and CEO, highlighted the film’s success and the positive reception it has continued to receive in Italy. “Paola Cortellesi’s extraordinary new film There’s Still Tomorrow has been breaking records in Italy, where it is still being played widely in cinemas five months after the release thanks to the exceptional word of mouth it has garnered over time. We are honoured that Paola has trusted us with distributing and playing her movie in the UK so British audiences will also be able to watch this amazing and hugely important movie on the big screen,” Richards commented.

Produced by Wildside, a Fremantle company and Vision Distribution, operated jointly by Sky Italia, There’s Still Tomorrow promises UK and Ireland audiences a cinematic experience that combines historical depth with compelling storytelling.
