Grogu-themed pop-up cafe opens in Shoreditch ahead of Mandalorian film release

A Grogu-themed pop-up cafe has opened its doors to the public in Shoreditch, welcoming its first guests today in the run-up to the cinema release of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu next Friday. The free ticketed experience, housed at the Kachette Annexe on Kingsland Road, will run for three days this weekend (15th to 17th May), offering fans themed food, drink and photo opportunities inspired by the little green character.

Advance tickets for the pop-up were claimed within 24 hours of being released, according to the organisers. Though entry is free of charge, visitors must book in advance so additional same-day tickets are being made available each morning at 9am across the weekend.

The cafe opens at 12.30pm on Friday and runs until 8.30pm, with extended hours from 9am to 8.30pm on Saturday and Sunday. Inside, attendees will find Grogu-themed decor, designated photo areas, matcha-led drinks and desserts, and an on-site retail installation selling Star Wars and Grogu merchandise supplied by Miniso.

The food and drinks have been developed in collaboration with three London-based brands: bakery Bread Ahead, bubble tea chain Bubble CiTea and matcha energy drink company PerfectTed. Drinks and doughnuts are priced from £5.50, while cookies are available at three for £6.

The pop-up has been developed as a fan experience rather than conventional film marketing, in keeping with a wider recent trend for fandom-driven food activations and social-media-oriented temporary venues. The character of Grogu, popularly known among fans as Baby Yoda, first appeared in the Disney+ series The Mandalorian and has since become one of the most recognisable figures in the contemporary Star Wars franchise.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu marks the first theatrical release in the Mandalorian storyline, following several seasons of streaming content. The film is scheduled to arrive in UK cinemas on 22nd May.
