Dark Matter is Apple TV+’s latest binge-worthy science fiction series about the crossroads of life and how the paths we end up taking shape us. Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton) is a physics professor with a loving family, but the recent success of a friend, who works in the same field, dampens his mood. After his wife (Jennifer Connelly) finally convinces him to join the celebration, Jason finds himself abducted and transported to an alternate reality, in which he chose his career over love, and the woman in his life is Amanda Lucas (Alice Braga).

The Upcoming got the opportunity to speak to the cast about their approach to these characters, whose choices inform some of their characterisation in these different planes of existence. Furthermore, Edgerton shared that he proactively sought to be attached to this project and Braga revealed whether it was pure coincidence that her recent filmography (Hypnotic, Share?) included a number of mind-bending mysteries in the tone of Dark Matter.

Not only is Dark Matter based on the novel of the same name, but it was adapted for the screen by the author himself, Blake Crouch. We spoke to the showrunner about this unusual development and executive producer Matt Tolmach about the ongoing appeal of multiverses and the roads not taken.

Dark Matter is released on Apple TV+ on 8th May 2024.
