Elysian Film Group announces UK and Irish release of Treasure, a poignant exploration of legacy and connection

Elysian Film Group, in collaboration with FilmNation Entertainment and Bleecker Street, has announced the UK and Irish cinema release of the much-anticipated film Treasure, starring renowned actors Stephen Fry and Lena Dunham, for 14th June 2024. The film is a poignant exploration of Germany’s Nazi legacy, directed and written by Julia Von Heinz, marking the third instalment in her Aftermath Trilogy.

Set against the backdrop of 1990s Poland, Treasure unfolds the story of Ruth, portrayed by Dunham, an American music journalist, and her father, Edek, played by Fry, a Holocaust survivor with a stubborn charm. Their journey to Edek’s homeland is not just a geographical trip but an emotional quest to understand their family’s past while navigating the cultural disparities of post-socialist Poland. This father-daughter road trip is depicted as an emotional yet humorous clash of cultures, illustrating how a reconnection with one’s heritage can unearth unforeseen treasures.

Elysian Film Group, led by industry veteran Danny Perkins since 2018, has been at the forefront of developing and distributing impactful cinema, including the Oscar and Bafta-winning The Boy and The Heron through its UK distribution arm established in early 2020. Perkins’ extensive experience in the international film business is reflected in the company’s ambitious projects and collaborations with both established and upcoming filmmakers.

FilmNation Entertainment, known for producing, financing, and distributing globally appealing award-winning films, joins hands in bringing Treasure to screens. With a portfolio that includes critically acclaimed films like Arrival, The Big Sick and Promising Young Woman, FilmNation continues to champion strong creative voices in the film industry.

Treasure not only represents a significant contribution to the cinematic examination of Germany’s historical wounds but also showcases the talents of Fry and Dunham, under the direction of Von Heinz, in narrating a story that bridges generational and cultural divides. As the film makes its way to cinemas this June, audiences are invited to witness a compelling narrative of discovery, reconciliation and the nuanced beauty of human connections across the landscapes of history and memory.
