Apple TV+ sets premiere date for season two of The Buccaneers on 18th June 2025

Apple TV+ has announced that the second season of its acclaimed drama series The Buccaneers will premiere globally on 18th June 2025. The series, inspired by Edith Wharton’s unfinished novel, will release new episodes weekly through 6th August. The upcoming season will feature returning cast members Kristine Frøseth, Alisha Boe, Aubri Ibrag, Mia Threapleton, Josie Totah and Imogen Waterhouse, alongside Christina Hendricks and newcomer Leighton Meester.

The Buccaneers first season introduced viewers to a group of vibrant American women making their mark on 1870s London society, sparking both romance and cultural clashes. The narrative continues to evolve around themes of love, power and societal expectations as the characters navigate their lives in a now familiar yet challenging English landscape.

In the second season, the stakes are higher for the main characters who are deeply entrenched in their new lives. Nan St George, played by Frøseth, has become the Duchess of Tintagel, a prominent figure in the country. Boe’s character, Conchita Closson, emerges as a heroine for a new wave of American heiresses, while Jinny St George, portrayed by Waterhouse, finds herself at the centre of a national scandal.

The ensemble cast for the new season also includes Guy Remmers as Theo, Duke of Tintagel, Matthew Broome as Guy Thwarte, and Josh Dylan as Lord Richard Marable, with Barney Fishwick returning as Lord James Seadown. New additions to the cast include Meester as Nell, Greg Wise as Reede Robinson and Jacob Ifan as Hector Robinson.

Season two is directed by a team including BAFTA Award winner William McGregor and DGA Award winner Rachel Leiterman, under the continued creative guidance of series creator Katherine Jakeways. Jakeways, along with BAFTA nominees Beth Willis and Susanna White, also serve as executive producers. The series is produced by The Forge Entertainment, a Banijay UK company.

The show has been praised for its fresh take on the period drama genre, blending historical settings with modern themes of female empowerment and diversity. Its narrative has been described as a feminist love story that explores the sacrifices women make to overcome societal constraints.
