Sky Garden’s Fenchurch to host one-night Ruinart champagne and seafood pairing dinner

Fenchurch, the restaurant on the 37th floor of London’s Sky Garden, will host an exclusive one-night champagne dinner on 23rd September, pairing five Ruinart cuvées with a five-course seafood menu created by chef de cuisine Kerth Gumbs.

The evening will be hosted by Jacqueline Kobald, LVMH champagne ambassador, and Alex Pastrav, group head of wine at Rhubarb Hospitality Collection. Both will talk guests through each bottle, its character and the reasoning behind the individual pairings. Places are limited to just 16 and priced at £150 per person, which covers the reception, canapés and the paired five-course menu.

Beginning at 6.30pm on the Fenchurch terrace, there’s a champagne reception and canapés, before guests move into the restaurant’s private dining room from 7pm. The menu draws on Gumbs’ modern Caribbean approach to seafood. The first course is Cured Trout and Tuna with Watermelon Radish, Green Mango, Citrus Ponzu and Roe served with sweet potato milk bread and XO butter, which is paired with a Ruinart Blanc de Blancs 2013. That’s followed by a Dover Sole Fish Finger with Spring Onion and Lobster Mashed Potato, matched with Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs 2013. Sea Bass with Cucumber Spaghetti, Bronze Fennel, Squid Ink and Calamansi follows, alongside a Dom Ruinart Rosé 2009 – a vintage that has won multiple gold medals. The meal closes with a strawberry and cream dessert incorporating elderflower jelly, pickled fennel, white chocolate and strawberry sorbet, accompanied by a Ruinart Rosé.

Chef Gumbs joined Fenchurch in 2023 from Boiler & Co, where he was head chef, having previously held the same role at Ormer Mayfair. A Le Cordon Bleu graduate with nearly two decades in professional kitchens, he began his career at one of Sir Terence Conran’s London restaurants and has worked with chefs including Tom Aikens and Jason Atherton. He was also part of the opening team for the first L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in London. In 2020 he won the London and South East heat of BBC Two’s Great British Menu, going on to the national finals, and has more recently appeared as a judge on BBC Three’s Young MasterChef – so the lucky 16 diners will be in very good hands.
