Nieves Barragán Mohacho to open Legado in Shoreditch this August

Spanish chef Nieves Barragán Mohacho will open her second London restaurant, Legado, in partnership with JKS Restaurants on Thursday, 28th August 2025. Located in Shoreditch at 1C Montacute Yards, the new venue will focus on lesser-known regional Spanish dishes, ingredients, and culinary traditions. The opening follows the success of Barragán Mohacho’s first solo venture, Sabor in Mayfair, awarded a Michelin star.

Legado, which translates to legacy in Spanish, will offer a more personal vision of Barragán Mohacho’s culinary heritage, with dishes inspired by her upbringing in Spain’s Basque Country and her deep ties to regional producers. The restaurant setting presents a 64-seat main dining room, a 16-seat counter overlooking an open kitchen, and a separate all-day tapas bar and terrace called the Taberna.

“Spain’s food heritage is incredible and has rightly deserved recognition in London and globally,” said Barragán Mohacho. “Its colours, tastes, and smells are rooted deeply within me. However, many dishes I love, I have never seen outside the country and want to bring them and even more to London.”

The menu at Legado will highlight whole animal butchery, conducted in-house, with meats sourced from specific regions of Spain. Lamb will come from Zamora, protected under the IGP (Indicación Geográfica Protegida) Lechazo de Castilla y León, while suckling pig will be supplied by Tabladillo el Cochinillo in Segovia. Iberian ham will be provided by Señorío de Montanera in Extremadura, a producer personally favoured by Barragán Mohacho’s family.

Seafood dishes will draw from Spain’s coastal regions, with options such as Crystal Mediterranean Prawns with smoked paprika and Moscatel vinegar, and Confit Lobster with chilli and garlic, served over sliced rose potatoes and topped with a fried egg. Grilled catch of the day will be served with Galician Ajada sauce, with guests choosing between the head or tail portions.

Vegetable-based offerings include the Legado Sandwich, made with Swiss chard, Cecina, and smoked cheese, and traditional Valencian Fideuà. Desserts will focus on seasonal fruits, such as Apricot Sorbet with almond milk and rosemary oil.

The drinks programme comprises a 150-bin wine list highlighting Spanish producers, including Bodegas Muga and Lopez de Heredia, alongside sherries, sparkling wines, and a rotating selection of 18 wines by the glass. A signature “3-Sip Serve” cocktail experience will begin each meal, with seasonal, non-iced drinks in regional ceramic vessels.

The restaurant’s interior will feature a double-height dining room with natural light, original brickwork, and a custom wine display. The open kitchen will house two hand-built ovens from Madrid’s Hornos Jumaco Maestro, dedicated to lamb and pork preparation. The Taberna bar will seat 15 indoors and 18 on an outdoor terrace.
