Jessica Chastain takes on domestic extremism in first look at Apple TV+ thriller The Savant

Apple TV+ has released a first look at The Savant, a gripping new eight-part limited series starring and executive produced by Academy Award-winner Jessica Chastain. The high-stakes thriller will premiere globally on 26th September 2025, with two episodes launching on debut, followed by weekly instalments every Friday until 7th November.

Inspired by a real-life investigation first profiled in Cosmopolitan, The Savant follows Chastain’s unnamed undercover operative as she infiltrates online hate groups to expose and prevent domestic terror attacks before they happen. The series promises a taut, suspenseful dive into radicalisation, misinformation, and the psychological toll of going undercover in an increasingly polarised digital world.

Joining Chastain in the ensemble are Nnamdi Asomugha, Cole Doman, Jordana Spiro, Trinity Lee Shirley, Toussaint Francois Battiste and guest star Pablo Schreiber. The series is created by House of Cards and Anatomy of a Scandal writer Melissa James Gibson and helmed by Emmy-winning director Matthew Heineman (A Private War, Cartel Land).

Produced by FIFTH SEASON, The Savant is executive produced by Chastain and Kelly Carmichael for Freckle Films, alongside Alan Poul, Heineman, Gibson, and Anonymous Content’s David Levine and Garrett Kemble. Andrea Stanley, author of the original Cosmopolitan article that inspired the project, serves as consultant.

The series marks another bold pivot for Chastain, whose recent work has spanned prestige drama (George & Tammy), biographical film (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) and Broadway (A Doll’s House). The Savant looks set to blend character-driven storytelling with urgent social commentary in a politically charged, thought-provoking drama.
