Robin Gill serves up European café and aperitivo culture with Bar Brasso in Nine Elms

Chef and restaurateur Robin Gill has opened a new all-day café-deli and aperitivo bar, Bar Brasso in Nine Elms. The venue opened its doors today, next to Gill’s existing restaurant, Darby’s. Drawing influence from the bar cultures Spain and Italy, the establishment aims to offer all-day hospitality, from morning to evening dining and drinking.

Bar Brasso is designed to serve a variety of offerings throughout their broad opening hours. In the mornings, customers can expect a selection of house-baked pastries and coffee. Lunchtime will feature Italian deli-style fare, while evenings will focus on aperitivo service, with a menu of seasonal small plates, cocktails and wines. Notably, the drinks menu includes wines served from a txakoli tap – a nod to the Basque tradition of serving the slightly sparkling white wine from height to aerate it.

The new venue is the latest addition to Gill’s growing portfolio and continues his focus on European culinary influences. Speaking about the concept, he explained that the idea was to create a space that reflects the relaxed yet vibrant culture of European bars: “Inspired by the bar culture of San Sebastián and Venice, Bar Brasso will offer guests a seamless experience from morning coffee and house-baked pastries, through Italian deli-style lunches, to aperitivo hour with seasonal small plates, Campari-led cocktails and wines poured from a txakoli tap.”

The opening of Bar Brasso comes amidst ongoing development in the Nine Elms area, which has seen significant investment in recent years, including the extension of the Northern Line and the regeneration of Battersea Power Station. The area has become a hotspot for new hospitality ventures, with this one adding to the growing list of food and drink destinations.
