Lopota Lake Resort & Spa awarded Michelin Key, joining Georgia’s top hotels for hospitality and design

Lopota Lake Resort & Spa, a family-owned estate in Georgia’s Kakheti wine region, has been awarded a Michelin Key by the Michelin Guide, it was announced today. The resort, situated on a 60-hectare property, is now one of only seven hotels in Georgia to receive the newly introduced accolade, which recognises excellence in hospitality, design and guest experience.

The Michelin Key is a recent initiative by the Guide, best known for its star system in the restaurant world, to honour hotels that demonstrate outstanding standards in architecture, interior design and service, with a distinctive sense of place. This recognition comes after a period of significant expansion and renovation at Lopota, which is owned and operated by sisters Ana and Elene Maisuradze and their families.

The team has collaborated with several local studios in its recent development. Notable contributions include 10:10 Interiors, which undertook the refurbishment of key guest accommodation buildings and a rooftop bar, and David Koiava of Design Avenue Studio, who was responsible for new lifestyle amenities such as an onsite jazz club and an aqua park (called Green Aqua). Lado Lomitashvili of Studio Gypsandconcrete reenvisioned the reception building and gift shop, integrating modern elements with traditional Georgian aesthetics. There is also an onsite vineyard and winery – Chateau Buera, alongside spa and wellness facilities.

Co-owner Ana Maisuradze said: “We’re honoured to receive this recognition from the Michelin Guide. It affirms our belief that modern travellers are leaning into the contemporary design and a guest experience rooted in comfort, culture and authentic Georgian hospitality. We see this not just as an accolade, but as a commitment to continue elevating what luxury hospitality means in Georgia and beyond.”

The property was established in 2008 by Goga Maisuradze, who discovered the previously forgotten Lopota Lake and developed the site into a tourist destination. What began as a seven-room family hotel has since expanded to include 311 rooms and suites, multiple restaurants, an indoor spa and wellness centre, a jazz club, stables and vineyards. The new distinction is expected to further enhance the profile of both the resort and the Kakheti region as a destination for international travellers seeking high standards in beautifully curated surroundings. Room rates begin at $330 USD per night for double occupancy, inclusive of breakfast.
