Award-winning director Anthony Chen, whose remarkable career trajectory includes a short film win at Cannes and recent international successes, premiered his latest work, We Are All Strangers, at the Berlinale 2026. This film completes his “Growing Up Trilogy”, offering a deep analysis of the universal struggles faced by new generations seeking their identity and a place in the world, contrasting with the perceived stability of older generations. Chen explains that the feature originated from a conversation with an actor wanting to drop out of school, sparking his exploration of a young man “forced to grow up”. Despite its cultural specificity to Singapore, Chen hopes the movie’s themes resonate universally, unveiling new facets of his home country.
