At Berlin Film Festival 2026, we sat down with directors and screenwriters Lorenzo Ferro and Lucas Vignale to discuss their evocative film, The River Train (El Tren fluvial). Ferro shared the genesis of the project, inspired by a child actor and a personal journey that led to envisioning a child protagonist exploring a city. The film sensitively portrays Milo’s internal struggle between a dream of escape and a powerful sense of rootedness to his home. Vignale elaborated on their filmmaking process, highlighting how they intentionally blended fiction with documentary elements, allowing for spontaneous, “magical” moments like the unexpected bird scene. Their approach ensured authentic performances, deeply weaving Milo’s reality into the narrative to create a profoundly immediate and alive cinematic experience.
