“Anger can give rise to actions that inspire hope”: Faraz Shariat on Prosecution at Berlin Film Festival 2026

Director Faraz Shariat joined us at the Berlinale 2026 to discuss his critically acclaimed film Prosecution, winner of the Audience Award in the Panorama section. Shariat masterfully intertwines a legal thriller with profound social commentary, exploring the struggles of a protagonist fighting systemic injustices. He revealed his intention to portray the trivialisation of right-wing violence and the ethical responsibility felt towards victims. Shariat expressed his belief that “anger can give rise to actions that inspire hope”, emphasising the film’s powerful message that even one person can initiate change. His work challenges audiences to move from apathy towards empathy and action in the face of growing societal division.
