The Green Parlour toasts England’s landscapes with evening drinks in classic British style

The Green Parlour at The Royal Horseguards Hotel now has an evening drinks menu called England by the Glass, which launched in April. The botanical lounge, previously open during the day for breakfast and afternoon tea, is serving guests in the evening with a menu of wines, cocktails and spirits sourced from across England, just in time for summer.

The selection is organised around English regions and landscapes, with drinks intended to reflect the areas they come from, including coastal locations, orchards, meadows and historic estates. It centres on a selection of English wines and sparkling wines. Among these are Henners Brut from East Sussex, produced by a former RAF pilot using Burgundian winemaking techniques, and white wine Knightor Carpe Diem from Cornwall. The list also features Bolney Estate Pinot Gris, which was the first English wine served at Wimbledon, in 2015.

The cocktails draw on London’s parks and surrounding counties. Options include The Green Park Gimlet and The Hyde Herb Garden, which combine botanicals, citrus and sweetness, alongside The Kensington Blossom, which has floral notes. Each drink is designed to reference the gardens and landscapes that informed the lounge’s design. For guests who do not drink alcohol, there’s an impressive range of mocktails and zero-proof spirits, including a Richmond Wildflower and a Greenwich Garden Time, which combine florals, fruit and botanical ingredients.

A spirits list highlights craft distilleries around the country. It counts in its number Black Cow Strawberry Vodka from Dorset, Burnt Faith Brandy (described as London’s first brandy distillery, which uses English wine) and The Lakes Whiskymaker’s Reserve, produced at a distillery on a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Cumbria.

The lounge’s evening menu also includes small plates served daily from 6 to 9.30pm. There are dishes such as Oak Smoked Salmon on Rye with Avruga Caviar, Garlic Prawns with Toasted Ciabatta and a British cheese selection with chutney, grapes and crackers.

The Green Parlour is close to St James’s Park and Whitehall Gardens in The Royal Horseguards Hotel at 2 Whitehall Court – once frequented by Winston Churchill and William Gladstone. The lounge operates from morning through to evening, with breakfast, afternoon tea and evening drinks served at set times.
