Voila! Theatre Festival brings 101 shows in 60 languages to stages across London

London’s multilingual theatre scene takes centre stage this November as Voila! Theatre Festival returns with 101 shows and events created by 450 artists across eight venues.

Running from 2^nd to 22^nd November, the festival brings together migrant-led, international and multilingual work from across the world, with performances in 60 languages. More than half of the programme combines English with at least one other language, while subtitles or surtitles will accompany shows performed entirely in other languages.

The line-up ranges from myth and folklore to surreal comedy and autobiographical work. Legend of Kaliakra retells the Bulgarian story of 40 maidens who chose death over slavery, while Lament of the Wandering Head draws on a Southeast Asian myth to explore diaspora and displacement through Penang Hokkien and Mandarin. Ukrainian soldier-led Heaven to Earth Plus combines personal testimony with music, poetry and folk songs.

There are also plenty of more unusual propositions. Edinburgh Fringe hit The Gummy Bears’ Great War stages an existential tragicomedy using real sweets on a tabletop, while Much Crazy About Nothing imagines a world where professional breakup agents can be hired to end relationships on someone else’s behalf. Basilitrix turns Polish folklore into a family folk-rock musical, and The Radical Wedding Engine mixes performance, ritual and food into a sensory celebration of love and resistance.

The festival will spread across Barons Court Theatre, Canal Cafe Theatre, Etcetera Theatre, The Playground Theatre, Theatro Technis, The Space Theatre, Upstairs at the Gatehouse and The Cockpit, following record ticket sales in 2025.

For audiences, the appeal is the sheer variety: one programme can take you from Bulgarian legend to Taiwanese myth, Ukrainian folk song, Polish musical theatre and absurdist comedy without leaving London.
