Covent Garden pizzeria launches £1.99 folded margherita on iPhone Duo release day
Covent Garden pizzeria Crust Bros is serving up a folded margherita this Friday, timed to coincide with Apple’s first foldable phone going on sale at the nearby Apple Store. A total of 500 pizzas will be available for takeaway only, the first 50 at just £1.99 – about a thousandth of the price of the phone. After the first 50 have sold at £1.99, the price rises to £5 until 3pm or until the dough runs out.
Called the Crust Bros Foldable, the pizza is a margherita folded in four, following the Neapolitan street-food tradition of pizza a portafoglio, or wallet pizza, because it is folded like a wallet and eaten on the move. It uses the same dough as the rest of the restaurant’s menu, fermented for between 48 and 72 hours, along with San Marzano tomatoes and fior di latte. The crusts are finished with a dusting of parmesan.
The pizzeria has leaned into the parallel with the new iPhone Duo handset with the following set of technical specifications:
Form factor: Wallet-style. Folds twice.
Colourway: Tomato red, mozzarella white, basil green.
Crease: Visible, deliberate and full of fior di latte.
Processor: 48-72 hour fermented dough.
Battery life: Roughly four minutes of continuous use.
Durability: Not yet drop-tested.
