Skin sweet: How to make your own brown sugar polishing scrub

Skin sweet: How to make your own brown sugar polishing scrub

Yes, we know it’s still the middle of winter and you probably won’t be sun-kissed for a while, but that doesn’t mean you should neglect your skin.

Here’s just the ticket: a simple recipe for a beautiful homemade sugar scrub that is natural enough to use on both your face and body.

The beauty of making your own skincare products is that you know exactly which ingredients you’re getting up close and personal with so your skin, health and the environment can breathe a sigh of relief!

Brown sugar is a fantastic natural exfoliator and skin brightener that will leave your skin feeling refreshed and revitalised, not to mention smooth as a Galaxy Caramel. It can also be swirled into a teaspoon of honey then massaged onto lips for a dangerously silky pout.

Ingredients
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup olive oil
A few drops of organic essential oil
A teaspoon of lemon juice as a toner (optional)

Method

1. Mix the sugar and olive oil together in a glass bowl.

2. Choose an organic oil to fragrance your blend: lavender and chamomile are super soothing while frankincense and ginger will transport you to exotic, spicy climes. Peppermint will give you a sparkly morning buzz, or if you’re looking for an antibacterial, deep cleansing treatment, go for tea-tree or rosemary. Have fun and experiment!

3. Add a few drops of essential oil and stir your way to soft, silky goodness.

Use once or twice weekly on dry skin before you get steamy in the shower. Slather this skin sweet treat generously over your face and body and buff away rough patches in smooth circular motions. Rinse away and breathe in the fragrant aroma under a cascade of warm water.

Rub-a-dub-dub, give your skin a good scrub!
