Ben Sherman’s new AW ‘13 campaign has us wishing for summer’s end
Ben Sherman is already somewhat of an iconic name and the brand’s new AW ‘13 campaign is all about exploring Britain’s working roots, and the sense of camaraderie and family that came along with this. Sherman has once again teamed up with contributors from The Rig Out magazine to create a campaign that’s sure to evoke a sense of nostalgia in more than a few people.
The idea behind the brand’s AW ‘13 campaign was to focus on the pitmen and mining communities that were well established in Britain in the mid-century. These communities left an undeniable mark on future British generations and continue to create a feeling of togetherness and family even now.
In order to try and achieve these themes, the campaign worked with boys from the retail stores and the shoot was set in Brighton, where the brand first began in order to truly emphasise the whole idea of “We Work with Our Own” – all while keeping a thread of relatable modernity running through the authenticity of the outfits.
The traditional, homely themes don’t just start and end with the location of the campaign and the involvement of colleagues from retail stores however, as both the campaign’s photographer, Anthony Crook and its stylist, Glenn Kitson, grew up in the North of England where the effects on these mining families and communities can still be felt even now.
This focus on working together as a kind of “family unit” and collaborating with those who are likely to still hold the old mining days fairly close to their hearts means that Ben Sherman have managed to create a campaign that isn’t just themed, but is almost certain to have fans convinced that the brand had to step back in time a little bit in order to shoot it.
