Pitango bikes workshop: making women cyclists feel safer in the city

Set up by three London-based entrepreneurs; a schoolteacher, a mountain guide and a sous-chef, Pitango Bikes is an independent company that creates standout bicycles in a selection of bold colours and sleek shapes.

If you head over to the Pitango Bikes website you can even design your own bicycle, selecting the colour, frame style, frame size and even gear to ensure it caters to your exact needs.  These high-quality bikes are created with both males and females in mind but having recently discovered that women only take up a quarter of the cycling population in England, Pitango took it upon themselves to find out why this was. They carried out numerous surveys only to discover that 67% of the female respondents didn’t own a bike as they were too afraid to cycle in the city and 72% wouldn’t know how to fix their bike if it somehow became broken.

With this in mind Pitango have organised a workshop that will help women become more confident and relaxed about cycling in the city. Taking place on Saturday 7th September at Archway, Islington the workshop will take roughly an hour and a half and will be followed by a cheeky trip to a hipster cycling café and even a fun tutorial on how to remain stylish whilst cycling.

The event is being run by a female coach and will be full of useful information, advice and will help you overcome any issues you may have in regards to cycling. You will also learn about keeping your bike in the best condition, saving money and repairing any minor problems.

The workshop is suitable for everybody from beginners to pros and will benefit anybody who is interested in cycling.
