Ben Howard – I Forget Where We Were

Ben Howard’s latest collection is his most stunning work to date. From start to finish, he has effortlessly created a perfect, awe-inspiring piece of art that reminds listeners why he is one of Britain’s shining stars in the music industry.

Opening track Small Things starts off with an eerie, intense feeling. We hear the sublime mix of guitars and drums, eagerly waiting for Howard’s vocals to naturally kick in, instantly indicating that this album will be a remarkable experience for the listener. The passion remains high with each song and in title track I Forget Where We Were, it’s clear to see why he has already achieved so much in his career and that he’s sure to achieve more – the track, lyrically and production-wise, is beyond beautiful.

It’s difficult to choose one particular standout song because the whole album offers so much. Through his songs, Howard captivates listeners through his gentle vocals and lyrics, allowing each and every person to connect to his heartfelt tracks and thought-provoking words. End of the Affair is a perfect example: he doesn’t once drop the momentum in his longest song on the album. The spine-tingling strings from the guitar, alongside his distinctive, prevailing voice, which both switch halfway into the song so the tempo and volume increase, is enough to take you to a new dimension. Definitely one of the strongest songs in his entire career, it shows Howard’s development as an artist from his debut album Every Kingdom, for which his fan base is a tremendous thing to witness.

Finding fault in this piece of work is not easy, as Howard offers so much in less than an hour. Right until the final song All Is Now Harmed, you can’t help but feel moved by what has been created. What is truly magical is hearing those vocals that so many have come to love. You certainly won’t forget where you were after hearing this album for the first time.
