How to wear the new 70s skirt

How to wear the new 70s skirt

Any of those with a passion for fashion will know that the revival of the 70s has arrived and will be grooving its way into spring/summer 2015. Fashion week saw the likes of Chanel, Victoria Beckham and Louis Vuitton colouring the catwalks in bold 70s prints and shapes.

We are all for flares, midi skirts and a suede overload, but the question is, how do we wear such retro designs, without looking like an Austin Powers reject?

Well fear not, because we have the perfect guide on how to wear one of the biggest 70s staples: the long A-line skirt. Having gathered inspiration from some of our favourite style icons, we are sure we will all be rocking this trend by summer.

When in doubt, it’s always a good idea to turn to “it” girl Alexa Chung for fashion advice. Forever the combiner of elegant and edgy style, Chung was seen in February wearing this gorgeous suede skirt from Marks and Spencer. Although the skirt isn’t due to come out until later this month, it has already been the focus of many a fashionista’s discussion. In fact, it has had such a fuss over it, they brought the release date forward by a whole month!

For a night out, we recommend a black button-up blouse, with loose hair, and earthy toned make-up. Dark shades go very well with brown suede and will make your outfit seem more chic.

Fashion icon, Olivia Palermo, was also spotted wearing the same skirt and we just love how she styled the piece. Why not wrap up in a burgundy turtleneck and tuck it into the skirt? We are still loving the high-neck trend. Pair with some chunky, patent boots and you have the perfect, comfortable shopping outfit.

For more of a summery feel, try the A-line skirt in denim, like Poppy Delevingne. Team with a lace or ruffled blouse and add a matching clutch, for a suitable day outfit. Alternatively you could tie up the blouse and pop on some strappy sandals, for picnicking or holiday attire.

We think the trick with this A-line skirt is to keep the rest of your outfit simple. Wear with relaxed, neutral colours and let the 70s style really stand out and speak for itself. After all, it is the start of the snazzy season.
