Stella McCartney to design the Rio 2016 Team GB kit

British fashion designer Stella McCartney will once again be taking the reins in the ultimate partnership of fashion and sport as she is named the chosen designer to create the sports kits that will be worn by Team GB in next year’s Olympics.

After the success of her 2012 kit, it is no surprise that the vegetarian fashion designer has been reappointed and named the creative director for the Olympics and Paralympics, reprising her role from nearly four years ago.

With such a demanding task ahead Stella has called on a few old friends for advice, tips and support; looking to some of Britain’s top athletes she has recruited Jessica Ennis-Hill, Tom Daley, Laura Trott, Lizzie Armistead, Alistair and Johnny Brownlee, Justin Rose and Max Whitlock to test out the kit.

The 2016 sporting event will take place in Brazil so it is no surprise that the new kit will be completely different to the one worn by the 2012 team. McCartney will surely have to take into account the change in weather, atmosphere and also the change in athletes.

Set to be unveiled in April, everybody has high hopes for the Adidas/Stella McCartney collaboration as it was revealed that the 2012 kit was the most popular to date; replicas were sold throughout the country and the athletes only has praise for McCartney’s work. No word yet on the designs but we can all guess that the British flag will be taking centre stage, whether in colour or motif Stella McCartney is sure to make her country proud.
