Kacey Musgraves at Royal Albert Hall

Kacey Musgrave, Texan Grammy-winning country star, inundated the Royal Albert Hall in pink and golden sparkles. The prestigious venue, completely sold-out, hosted 5,000 passionate fans of all ages who eagerly enjoyed Musgrave’s refreshing soulful vibes.

Sparkles, sprinkles and lasers filled the hall. Lights depicted intricate patterns, changing every song. Kacey, wearing three different glittery, country outfits during the evening, was accompanied by a four-piece dressed in raspberry suits stitched with yellow fairy lights. It felt like Christmas had come early and Santa Claus was wearing cowboy boots and a hat. The atmosphere and the aesthetic were enchanting and engaging.

Opening with Pageant Material, Kacey and her guitar lulled the crowd, alternating between tranquil and fun tracks. During the performance she told stories of her childhood and joyfully highlighted her rural origins with This Town. She described her recent humorous encounter with the Royals and delighted the crowd with Cup of Tea in honour of the British tea drinking custom: (“you guys like tea right?”). Fans danced and clapped along to her latest hit Biscuit, and knew all the words to the 2013 track Follow Your Arrow. The singer showcased her versatility by additionally covering Nancy Sinatra’s These Boots Are Made for Walkin’ and Coldplay’s Yellow.

Kacey was noticeably emotional during Merry Go ‘Round, and thanked the crowd for being present and “brave” in a moment of such international fear and despair after the Paris attacks. Underlining that she personally believes that “music has a healing power”, the songwriter specified how grateful she was to the British crowd for just “sitting there to listen”, instead of constantly demanding to be “dazzled”.

From romantic to sassy, and from gentle to explosive, Kacey Musgrave entertained and inspired with her own songs and covers. She enraptured the hall with fascinating special effects, but reminded fans about the true meaning of music. Her impressive performance balanced lighthearted jokes, inspiring reflections and absorbing musical skills.
