Five fun places to enjoy real American food on Independence Day

Whatever significance American Independence Day has to you, it’s an opportunity to take advantage of all the special offers in London’s finest American restaurants. Come 4th July, whether you’ll be clutching a hot dog chanting “USA! USA!” and gesturing to the skies with one of those large foam hand things, or hiding behind a broadsheet newspaper with a monocle and top hat, you won’t be able to resist indulging in some of the following delights…

Bubbledogs

Bubbledogs is the only organisation to our knowledge that claims the best way to enjoy a hot dog is with champagne, and with all the nonchalance to suggest it were a renowned combination. But why not? Exclusively on Independence Day they are launching a peanut butter and jelly dog!

All Star Lanes

This American-style bowling alley is serving up a special six-inch Dagwood burger until the 4th: 12oz of prime double chuck and rib patties, and fresh cuts of cured salami, spicy chorizo, deli sliced turkey, Swiss cheese and a runny sunny-side egg.

Balthazar

Free food anyone? This New York import is pulling out all the stops for Independence Day, offering meals on the house for those willing to wear stars and stripes on two separate garments of clothing. Be sure to wash your food down with the exclusive Obama Slammah.

Shotgun

Just off Carnaby Street, Shotgun is an American-style barbecue restaurant using British ingredients (if you feel you can’t commit to the idea fully). They will be serving up an American buffet feast for the occasion, and two-for-one deals on their refreshing Watermelon Punch.

Joe’s Southern Table and Bar

If it’s the flavour of the South you’re after, look no further than Joe’s in Covent Garden. They will be serving up a Jim Beam-themed menu to celebrate Independence Day (and the brand’s birthday). Expect bourbon, wings and American singalongs. This isn’t London, this is the heart of Kentucky.
