Triple Entendre: Love, Life and Other Stuff at Canal Café Theatre

Triple Entendre: Love, Life and Other Stuff at Canal Café Theatre | Comedy review

A new London-based trio is set to grace the comedy scene at Edinburgh Fringe Festival this August. Triple Entendre have been previewing their witty show at the Canal Café Theatre in Little Venice in preparation for the big event.

Emily, Anne and Tamara are three talented graduates from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. With tremendous voices, inventive songwriting skills and boundless enthusiasm, the troupe have created Love, Life and Other Stuff – a genre-defying show made up of original songs and sketches. Featuring a wide range of musical styles, the trio show off their powerful voices in songs with tongue-in-cheek humour.

Although the women’s impressive vocal range is enough to keep the audience entertained, the comedy is something that may need refining, despite the amusing and imaginative concepts behind each sketch. Songs about cat-lovers, ex-lovers and a jazz singer who cannot scat all have spectators chuckling, but there are no moments of uproarious laughter. In spite of this, it is easy to appreciate the originality and skill that the group have put into each section of this show, and the unique ideas are likely to go down a storm with larger audiences at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival next month.

The act expertly recounts bizarre elements of modern society, including the woes of working at a call centre and the tribulations of young love. Through a range of songs, poems and a drop of audience participation, Triple Entendre provide a distinctive performance that will entertain a range of adult audiences. With a number of tour dates in the pipeline, the trio will hopefully go from strength to strength in the lead up to and the aftermath of Edinburgh. Though it’s still early days for Love, Life and Other Stuff, it is certainly worth booking your tickets to witness the raw and innovative talent of these three young women and they strive to burst into the UK’s bright and bubbly comedy scene.
