Sugarmen at the Sebright Arms

Liverpool band Sugarmen hit the stage in London during their UK tour. Their highly anticipated debut album Local Freaks, released on 6^th October, made up the setlist and the audience loved it. The infectious rock and roll sound mixed with their energetic live performance is what makes them irresistible to listen to.

Despite its youth, the band has achieved a lot so far, from supporting The Strypes on tour to playing all around Liverpool. They have also performed at several festivals ranging from Venice Biennale exhibition to Hyde Park shows, along with iconic figures such as Blur.

A middle ground between early 2000s rock bands and 70s-80s music is what the four-piece have to show in this debut release, which somehow separates itself from these influences to build something better and refreshing to hear. Sugarmen seem to be a group of hopeful friends that love music beyond words, and this is not only revealed in their Velvet Underground or The Clash influences, but in the way they play live, with an insane chemistry that’s heavily inspired by the best pop/rock artists of all time. These rockers aim for an alternative vibe that separates their sound from the generic indie groups, while paying homage to their personal favourites.

Highlights of the show include album-opener AC and the catchy Our Gallows, and newly released single Push Button Age, about our reliance on technology, boasts a powerful chorus. Sugarmen play songs that leave audiences with a desire for more and the promise of a pleasant evolution that will craft a unique indie sound.
