Hurts at Brixton Academy | Live review

The crowd went wild with screams of excitement as the lights went up and Theo Hutchcraft and Adam Anderson walked on to the stage at Brixton Academy. With Ready to Go, Hurts immediately had the room dancing and moving to the rhythm of the music, setting the pace for the London date of their Desire tour.

The English synth-pop duo have just released their fourth album, Desire, and last night’s setlist was comprised of a number of new tracks such as Hold on to Me and Walk Away, as well as many from 2015’s Surrender, like the angsty Rolling Stone. Throughout the show, the musicians didn’t disappoint, playing for their fans, old and new, and inspiring them to dance.

Under the stage lights Hurts performed fantastically to a packed-out venue. Some concertgoers didn’t seem able to contain themselves, hypnotised by the trance-like Miracle, from 2013’s Exile, and the build-up chants of People Like Us and Nothing Will Be Bigger Than Us. The duo saved Desire‘s reaffirming lead single Beautiful Ones for the encore, finishing up with the seasonal All I Want for Christmas Is a New Year’s Day and Stay, the perfect song to say goodbye to their fans.
