Director Paul Thomas Anderson discusses the use of light in Phantom Thread – exclusive clip

Phantom Thread, Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest feature, is set against the backdrop of 1950s high-society London and tells the scintillating story of dressmaker Reynolds Jeremiah Woodcock and his romantic relationship with a young waitress (played by Vicky Krieps). With such a distinguished director behind the helm and Daniel Day-Lewis in the leading role, the film delivers as well-crafted and nuanced a story as you might expect. While the Oscar-winning actor offers an engaging performance as the obsessive designer, the exquisite direction and cinematography lift the feature to even bigger heights, revealing the sophistication and personality of the characters in every shot without losing any of the emotional intensity.

We have an exclusive clip of the director explaining how he employed lighting against Vicky Krieps’ frames to give power to his visuals.
