Sulphur and White, Julian Jarrold’s adaptation of the story of David Tait, suggests a neo-Malthusian criticism of child sexual abuse and the lingering effects of untreated trauma. The movie features Mark Stanley and Emily Beecham as David and Vanessa Tait, through whose bond the power of love is explored.

Our interview with David Tait and director Julian Jarrold explores the aesthetics of the film and the dynamics which informed the decision to produce an adaptation of Tait’s story.

We also spoke with actors Mark Stanley, Emily Beecham and Dougray Scott about the factors which motivated them to work on the film, as well as the challenges and successes of their roles.
