Finland is a land of thousands of lakes. The country is located in the far north, and the area of Lapland is pretty well known all across the world. Long cold winters, snow and Santa Claus are all important parts of Finnish culture. Even though the weather in the winter time is very cold, the people are warm. Guarded maybe, but warm. What about the food then? Which are the most exotic restaurants in Finland? Which are the places one should not miss when visiting this beautiful country in the north?
Ice Restaurant, Rovaniemi
Anyone who feels like having a taste of what a menu in Lapland can be can do this in a restaurant made entirely of ice. Rovaniemi Ice Restaurant is open for bookings, so one cannot just walk in at any time – it’s necessary to make a reservation first. There are many interesting, exotic local treats on the menu.
Katajanokan Kasino, Helsinki
Kasinot ilman tiliä are very popular in Finland. They are places where one can be entertained casino games – but that’s not all. Katajanokan, located in Helsinki, also serves nice food.
It’s a restaurant famous for excellent meeting and event services, and, being in a stylishly historical venue, it creates a classy and unforgettable atmosphere. The ambitious team in the kitchen prepares each dish with great attention and care. All the menus are designed based on seasonal changes.
Kakolanruusu, Turku
Turku is said to be one of the most beautiful cities in Finland. It’s recommended to visit this amazing city and area preferably in the summertime, since this is when it comes to life in a very special way. There are tens of interesting places to visit, of which Kakolanruusu is probably the most intriguing!
Kakolanruusu restaurant was opened in 2017. Ever since its opening it has been one of the most popular in Turku. Features include the restaurant’s own brewery, bakery and preparing food with open fire.
Näsinneula, Tampere
Näsinneula in Tampere is a classic eatery and sightseeing spot. Näsinneula is Finland’s highest building and the restaurant is located at the top of it. The venue has large windows that showcase the most spectacular panoramic views. What makes the experience even better is the fact that the restaurant rotates slowly, so patrons can see the views in 360 degrees.
Musta Lammas, Kuopio
For those with more time to explore Finland, it’s well worth travelling to Kuopio and, when there, going to Musta Lammas. It’s a very nice restaurant that’s located in an old beer factory that was built in 1862. As a complement to the incredible, historical building and atmosphere, Musta Lammas serves local food. There are also hand-picked herbs and vegetables grown by the restaurant.
Koulu, Turku
Back in Turku, in addition to the Kakola prison restaurant, one can also dine in an old school. Panimoravintola Koulu offers a very pleasant restaurant experience in a school that was built in 1889. Throughout its history the building has served as a facility for many educational institutions, but had its share of the bombings in 1940, when Finland fought against Russia. Today, Koulu serves lunch and dinner, and operates as a popular brewery, where it’s possible to try beers named after the staff of any regular school: Ope (Teacher) is a light lager beer with a hint of malt, Rehtori (Rektor) is a darker ale on the stronger side and Lehtori (Lecturer) is a smooth, light unfiltered ale.
