Engagement ring shopping in Hatton Garden with The Diamond Ring Co

Engagement ring shopping in Hatton Garden with The Diamond Ring Co

“Will you marry me?” is a life-changing question. As such, it requires immense thought and pre-planning. When it comes to engagement, naturally, you will be considering when and where to pop the question but, more importantly, you will need to know how to find the perfect ring.

There are countless reasons why London’s Hatton Garden should be the first port of call. The world-famous diamond quarter is bustling with jewellery stores, including independent brands and renowned chains, dating back to medieval times.

We visited The Diamond Ring Co, co-founded by Michael O’Sullivan, who began his inspiring career working at the bench over 30 years ago, before opening his own workshop serving the trade.

Choosing an engagement ring may seem daunting, but O’Sullivan and his team are on hand to offer all the advice – and reassurance – needed. Located in the heart of Hatton Garden, the company stocks over 10,000 loose diamonds, which are independently certified by renowned institutes GIA and IGI, so customers will never be short of choice.

The inviting, laidback atmosphere was a welcome surprise as O’Sullivan laid out several trays, showcasing an exquisite selection of jewellery. Clients can select one of the brand’s signature designs or discuss a bespoke order based on their exact specifications. If the latter is favoured, rest assured you will have complete control over the entire design process, from hand-picking loose diamonds to overseeing CAD drawings. Conveniently, The Diamond Ring Co’s Instagram page is packed with inspiration.

An engagement ring should be a timeless symbol of love. If you are planning on surprising your partner, examine their jewellery collection for design and colour preferences: for example, they might opt for statement silver jewellery or yellow gold minimal pieces. It is vital to choose a design that is in keeping with their aesthetic – after all, they will be wearing it for the rest of their life.

Here are our top three engagement ring styles at The Diamond Ring Co.:

Solitaire

Simple yet stunning, a solitaire engagement ring is a foolproof option that will never be considered out of fashion. Hailey Bieber’s oval diamond, set on a plain gold band, is a prime example.

Halo

As the name suggests, halo rings feature smaller diamonds surrounding the larger centre stone, creating a style reminiscent of vintage engagement rings – much like Princess Diana’s cherished sapphire.

Trilogy

Trilogy rings are perhaps the most romantic as they represent you and your loved one’s past, present and future. Prince Harry designed a three-stone stunner for Meghan Markle, incorporating a cushion-cut central diamond from Botswana.

Once you have a design in mind, the next step is to consider the four characteristics used to determine the quality and value of a diamond: carat, cut, clarity and colour.

The cut and colour significantly impact a diamond’s beauty. Cut refers to the quality of the angles, proportions, facets and fire – in other words, the diamond’s ability to sparkle. You can expect your stone to be graded using a scale of Ideal, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair and Poor. Meanwhile, for colour, diamonds are graded from D (colourless) to Z (yellow or brown tint). Stones that fall under category D are the most expensive.

Remember that size isn’t everything and The Diamond Ring Co is able to cater for all budgets. In fact, stock is constantly updated to ensure it offers the best value for money.

In addition to engagement rings, a wide range of wedding and eternity rings, diamond earrings, pendants and bracelets are available to suit every occasion. What’s even better is products come with a lifetime guarantee, including routine checks and ultrasonic cleaning. What’s not to love?
