Adding to the recent onslaught of content seeking to put the rich and entitled through the wringer for our entertainment (see Triangle of Sadness, The Menu, White Lotus) is Brandon Cronenberg’s (son of the renowned filmmaker David) twisted sci-fi-tinged, dark comedy Infinity Pool, set on a fictional holiday resort where the wealthy have discovered a way to wiggle out of paying for their crimes. It stars a member of one of Sweden’s most famous families, Alexander Skarsgård, and Mia Goth, who is quickly emerging as this generation’s scream queen (this unhinged role adding to X and Pearl) and features as much sex, gore and body horror as most can handle.

The Upcoming were able to catch a few minutes with the film’s stars and the director at the premiere at the 2023 Berlinale. Skarsgård spoke about his experience on-set and why he wanted to work with Cronenberg.

Goth explained why she was drawn to such roles and the need to not over-intellectualise the work.

Cronenberg also spoke about his approach to filmmaking and whether there are boundaries still to cross.

Infinity Pool is released nationwide on 24th March 2023. Read our review here.
