Dubai’s culinary landscape shines with Trèsind Studio in the Michelin Guide 2023

Dubai’s culinary landscape shines with Trèsind Studio in the Michelin Guide 2023

In this year’s release of the Michelin Guide Dubai 2023, a fascinating spectrum of 90 restaurants, boasting 23 different culinary traditions, have earned the recognition of the notoriously careful inspectors.

The second edition of the guide, announced at the Atlantis Royal Hotel, salutes the new entrants with three restaurants gaining their first star and one establishment being honoured with a second star. Alongside these, the guide unveiled 17 bib gourmand restaurants on 16th May.

Gwendal Poullennec, the guide’s director, acknowledged Dubai’s global appeal, noting its diverse culinary offerings ranging from Peruvian and Emirati to modern French, traditional British and contemporary Japanese cuisines.

Adding to its acclaim, Trèsind Studio has now been awarded two stars. The inspectors extolled the restaurant for its inventive and precise dishes, dubbing the dining experience there as truly unforgettable. It joins Il Ristorante – Niko Romito and STAY by Yannick Alléno, which both retain the distinction.

Among the new one star, additions are Avatāra, which wowed inspectors with its elevated vegetarian cuisine; Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, a replica of the Mayfair restaurant; and Moonrise, run by chef Solemann Haddad, winner of the Young Chef Award 2022:  unique fusion of Middle Eastern ingredients and Japanese techniques.

Bib gourmand, a category recognising more moderately priced establishments, expanded this year with three additions, bringing the total to 17. All restaurants from the 2022 selection have retained the accolade.

Finally, the green star, a recognition introduced in 2020 to applaud the commitment to sustainable gastronomy. This year, Boca and Teible received it for their environmentally inspiring ethos, illustrated through their focus on local ingredients, conscious waste management and renewable energy use.

In terms of special awards, the guide highlighted the efforts of individuals within the hospitality industry, such as Omkar Walve of Avatāra (Young Chef Award) and Arturo Scamardella of Dinner by Heston Blumenthal (Sommelier Award). The Service Award was claimed by the team at La Mar by Gastón Acurio, while the newly introduced Opening of the Year award was given to Ariana’s Persian Kitchen.

Dubai’s culinary scene continues to flourish and captivate food enthusiasts worldwide, a sentiment echoed by this year’s Michelin guide.
