A new era for the Dorchester: Exploring the redesigned rooms and suites

Writing a new chapter in its history, the Dorchester has unveiled extensively renovated guest rooms and suites. The groundwork for this overhaul was laid with the January reopening of the hotel’s ground floor, and the newly rejuvenated rooms are now ready to host guests, carrying the Dorchester’s legacy forward.

Demonstrating its commitment to reinventing the classics for today’s travellers, the hotel has appointed acclaimed interior design firm Pierre-Yves Rochon to breathe new life into its spaces. With a gentle nod to the 1930s glamour and a firm step towards modern sensibilities, the new interiors weave together the past and present. Drawing on its prestigious Mayfair location and the inherent quirkiness of the property, the design features a colour palette inspired by Hyde Park, which sits right on the hotel’s doorstep.

Guests will be welcomed into radiant, meticulously planned rooms and suites decked out in hues reflective of an English garden. Each room features variations of pale leaf green, rose fog pink, heather blue, and lemon yellow, designed to reinvigorate the heritage of the property. Special attention has been paid to ensure a residential style of comfort while still honouring defining elements of the hotel’s history, such as Oliver Messel’s opulent signature style.

The new guest rooms, with Spanish Alarwool custom woven carpets underfoot and select suites boasting headboards hand-painted by de Gournay, exude English charm. Classic English appeal is further reinforced by Colefax and Fowler’s floral fabrics enhancing the walls and headboards in all rooms.

Reimagined to mirror the ambiance of a luxurious private home, the number of rooms in the Dorchester has been scaled down from the original 250 to a more spacious 241. Guests can now choose from 19 elegant room types, which include Superior, Deluxe, Executive Park View Rooms, Executive Junior Suites, Dorchester Suites and Hyde Park Suites – among others. This range offers a diversified and curated offering to guests while ensuring that signature rooms like the Oliver Messel Terrace Suite retain their original style and elegance.

In a bid to create a sense of continuity throughout the property, Pierre-Yves Rochon was also entrusted with the redesign of the hotel’s central areas, such as the famed Promenade and the sparkling new Artists’ Bar. The revamp is underpinned by a thoughtfully curated art collection, with each space coming alive with artistic expressions.

State-of-the-art enhancements elevate both comfort and functionality in the newly renovated rooms and suites. Upgrades to the sound proofing, air conditioning and plumbing systems throughout the hotel ensure a serene and comfortable experience for guests. The use of sound-absorbing materials assures tranquillity, whilst the modernised air conditioning and plumbing systems support customisable temperature control and water-saving technologies respectively, reinforcing the hotel’s commitment to sustainable luxury.

With the hotel’s ground floor and its new Cake & Flowers boutique having already been unveiled earlier this year, the renovation of the Dorchester’s penthouse suites is set to follow, concluding with a permanent rooftop offering in 2024. It’s a new era for this landmark hotel.
