This new Spanish thriller movie Awareness, set within the landscapes of the Mediterranean country, is a story that explores family dynamics and power through the genre trappings of a sci-fi action feature. Helmed by an ensemble cast of international actors, the film’s visuals collide with the use of music to move the narrative along.

Ian (Carlos Scholz) lives with his father (Pedro Alonso) on a boat. The two work together as scam artists of sorts who survive through their low-level criminal activity. This is an easy task for them both because Ian has the ability to generate visions in their unsuspecting victims that allow the pair to escape from the hands of the law. But, when Ian is captured by a powerful group, he soon begins to question his past and his family connections.

The Upcoming had the pleasure of speaking to Daniel Benmayor, who not only directed the feature but worked in collaboration with Ivan Ledesma on the script too, as he talked about bringing this story to screen, the appeal of this genre for audiences and the importance of music in driving the story. We also chatted with Alonso about his role in the film and what it was like building rapport with his fellow cast. He also spoke about the moment he received the script and the appeal of being part of this incredible production.

Awareness is released on Prime Video on 11th October 2023.
