London’s Picturehouse Central to host fourth edition of The World’s Biggest All Nighter with diverse film marathons and celebrity curators

On Saturday 7th June, Picturehouse Central in London’s West End will host the fourth edition of The World’s Biggest All Nighter, an annual all-night film festival that brings curated movie marathons to all seven screens of the flagship cinema. The event, returning after a successful debut in 2023, will feature seven themed film programmes, each hosted or curated by filmmakers, podcasters, social platforms and magazines alongside Picturehouse’s own programming team, aiming to attract film enthusiasts across the capital.

This year’s line-up includes notable figures such as filmmakers David Lowery and Augustine Frizzell, curators from the film-centric social network Letterboxd, the team behind The Ghibliotheque podcast, independent film publication Animus Magazine, and curator Token Homo, known for Bar Trash and Queer Horror Nights. Each host has been assigned a screen at the venue, resulting in a diverse selection of overnight film marathons with distinctive themes.

The seven marathon programmes include Movie Night with David Lowery and Augustine Frizzell, where the director duo will share a selection of their favourite films. Lowery said, “There are few things Augustine and I love more than movie marathons. We love attending them, and we love programming them, so when the possibility of curating a Picturehouse marathon was presented, we leapt at it. The lineup we’ve put together contains one film I haven’t seen, one film Augustine hasn’t seen, as well as a selection of titles that have endured and become beloved in our household. Some of them we know by heart, others we haven’t seen in decades, all of them deserve to be viewed on the biggest screen possible. We hope you’ll join us for a night of cozy cinematic madness.”

Other themes include the Spotlight: Letterboxd Members programme, which will screen films either made or championed by prominent members of Letterboxd, and Ghibliotheque’s Greatest Hits, curated by podcast hosts Michael Leader and Jake Cunningham. The event also features a complete marathon of the Hunger Games franchise, a late-night erotic thriller selection by Animus Magazine’s Elena Lazic, Queer Monstrosity curated by Token Homo focusing on queer horror monster movies and Pot Luck: Mystery Theme!, a longstanding All Nighter tradition challenging attendees to guess the link between several surprise films.

According to organisers, this instalment marks the first time that Picturehouse is collaborating with external hosts on five out of the seven screens, reflecting a growing industry trend towards partnerships and thematic curation. In the past, the festival has featured guest programmes by directors Edgar Wright and Gaspar Noé, as well as Empire Magazine and Arrow Video.

The event is expected to draw significant interest from London’s cinephile community, with tickets available now through the Picturehouse website. Full details and booking information can be found at picturehouses.com/allnighter.
