Dishoom Loves Market to launch two-weekend celebration of South Asian creativity and culture in Shoreditch

Restaurant group Dishoom will launch its first-ever Dishoom Loves Market in Shoreditch this month, with a two-weekend programme celebrating South Asian creativity and culture. Taking place at Old Street events space Kachette on Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd and Friday 28th to 30th November, the event will feature a daytime market and transform into a space for live performances and discussions during the evening.
The aim is to showcase a range of makers, designers and performers, with stalls featuring jewellery, skincare, textiles and homeware. Participating vendors include Anisha Parmar Studio, Fable & Mane, Tiipoi, La Jambu and Mauli Rituals, among others. In addition to external traders, Dishoom will offer products from its own café and store, such as mithai (traditional Indian sweets), street food and a new line of branded merchandise.
A series of ticketed creative workshops will be held in the afternoons, with prices ranging from £30 to £65. Activities on offer range from incense holder decorating with Mush Studio to mehendi bauble design with Pavan Ahluwalia Dhanjal and map embroidery with artist Ekta Kaul, with many others besides. The market will also host Chai Pe Charcha – a programme of intimate discussions on community identity and culture. These conversations, held over bottomless chai, will cover topics such as representation in media, South Asian masculinity and inter-racial relationships, foregrounding speakers including comedian Eshaan Akbar, journalist Sonia Haria and filmmaker Aaron Christian.
Evenings will feature live music, comedy and panel discussions. On opening night, the venue will become a listening bar with DJ sets and games, then on the 22nd the highlight is a Q&A with actor Riz Ahmed and director Aneil Karia about their upcoming film adaptation of Hamlet. Others featured in the lineup are the Brown Sauce Comedy Club (28th November) and Gaysians: a night curated by Reeta Loi and Nadine Noor celebrating queer South Asian performance (29th November).
Visitors can attend for free during scheduled morning (10am–1pm) or afternoon (1pm–5pm) sessions, with complimentary chai served throughout the day. Walk-ins are accepted, but given it is expected to be busy, free passes can be booked via Dishoom’s website. Tickets for workshops and evening events are required.
