Birmingham Royal Ballet brings The Nutcracker to life at the Royal Albert Hall this Christmas

Birmingham Royal Ballet’s beloved production of The Nutcracker returns to the capital this festive season with a spectacular three-day run at the Royal Albert Hall from 29th to 31st December 2025.
Adapted specially for the grandeur of the historic venue, the show transforms the classic tale into an immersive experience complete with stunning projections, an on-stage orchestra and all the magic that has made The Nutcracker a seasonal staple for generations. With Tchaikovsky’s soaring score performed live by the Royal Ballet Sinfonia and dazzling stage effects that envelop the iconic circular space, this unique version has fast become a Christmas tradition of its own in the capital.
Directed by Sir Peter Wright and brought to life by Birmingham Royal Ballet’s world-class company of dancers, the production whisks audiences into a world of enchanted snowflakes, battling toy soldiers and sugar plum fairies. Clara’s Christmas Eve adventure takes on new scale and grandeur in this specially tailored staging, with a flying goose, a towering Christmas tree transformation and nearly a ton of dry ice used across the run.
Now celebrating 35 years since the original production premiered in Birmingham, this London engagement comes at a milestone moment – not least as its creator, Sir Peter Wright, turns 99 during the season. Designed to both honour the traditional ballet and enchant new audiences, this iteration of The Nutcracker at the Royal Albert Hall balances legacy and innovation in a breathtaking festive showcase.
