Xi Home Dumplings Bay to celebrate Burn’s Night with haggis dumpling masterclass

This year, Spitalfields Chinese restaurant Xi Home Dumplings Bay will mark Burn’s Night with a special dumpling-making class featuring haggis as the central ingredient. The event is scheduled to take place from 3 to 5pm on Sunday 25th January at the restaurant’s Blossom Street premises, aiming to celebrate the traditional holiday by merging Scottish and Chinese culinary traditions.
The masterclass will be led by the restaurant’s founder, Wenjun, alongside head chef Minnie. Participants will be guided through the process of making Chinese dumplings, with a seasonal twist: using haggis, the iconic Scottish dish, as the filling. The fun will begin with a whisky cocktail or non-alcoholic alternative (included in the ticket price), followed by an introduction to the history of dumplings in China, after which Minnie will demonstrate the dumpling-making process, covering dough preparation, assembly and cooking techniques. Attendees will then have the opportunity to either eat their creations on-site or take them home.
Burn’s Night s marked across Scotland and by Scots worldwide with events featuring haggis, whisky and poetry readings to commemorate the poet Robert Burns. By introducing haggis dumplings, Xi Home Dumplings Bay aims to offer a unique experience blending Scottish and Chinese food cultures. The class forms part of Xi Home’s weekly dumpling sessions, but this one is being adapted specifically for occasion. It is priced at £65.71 per person and includes a Xi Home Dumplings Bay apron and a certificate of participation, alongside what organisers call “personalised tips for perfecting techniques at home”. Spaces are limited and advance booking is required.
