Ghosts brings Button House back from the dead for a big-screen Halloween adventure

Button House is reopening its doors this Halloween as the much-loved BBC comedy Ghosts makes the leap to cinemas with its first feature-length adventure, Ghosts: The Possession of Button House.

The film brings back the familiar faces behind the series, including Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond, alongside Lolly Adefope, Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe. A newly released trailer offers fans their first look at what awaits the living – and very much not living – residents of Button House when they reunite on the big screen.

Simon Hynd directs, while the original Ghosts creators Baynton, Farnaby, Howe-Douglas, Howick, Rickard and Willbond have written the film together, keeping the cinema outing firmly in the hands of the team behind the BBC series.

The film arrives three years after Ghosts ended its five-series run on BBC One. Its final episode attracted 7.2 million viewers, while the show was the UK’s most-watched comedy series of 2023.

With the original cast and writers returning, The Possession of Button House offers fans something rather more substantial than a television reunion: a new feature-length story designed for the cinema. And with an October release date, Button House could prove an appropriately ghostly place to spend the run-up to Halloween.
