Ghosts – The Possession of Button House: On the red carpet with the cast and creatives at the London premiere
Ghosts: The Possession of Button House is a supernatural comedy film based on the original series that came to a close three years ago. Directed by Simon Hynd and written by the original team of writers who also reprise their roles in the cast, viewers can expect a nostalgic trip back to Button House, where the supernatural capers all began.
When the owners of the historic house, Alison and Mike, move away, ghosts that remain inside are adjusting to their new reality when there are plans to turn the building into a hotel. When a group of teenagers break in and perform a séance using a Ouija board, there’s mayhem ahead when one of the teens called Jack (Scott Ellis Watson), becomes possessed by the ghost Julian (Simon Farnaby), and the body-swap allows him access to the living world.
The Upcoming had the pleasure of speaking to Ghosts newcomer Scott Ellis Watson at the red carpet premiere in London about his role in the picture, enjoying the comedy layers that saturate the script and how exciting it was to jump on board this beloved show.
We also chatted to returning director Simon Hynd about the writing collaboration and the storylines that unfurled in the movie. He also hinted at Easter eggs sprinkled through the story for previous fans of the series and what he hoped viewers would love about seeing this on the big screen.
Original cast member Ben Willbond spoke about what an easy fit it was returning to the show, how exciting it was to be back on board, working with the newcomer cast and how reprising his role as the Captain allowed him to further explore a journey he always dreamed of in the new narrative.
Laurence Rickard chatted to The Upcoming about returning to form, the sheer scale of the set as it expanded for the purpose of the feature and the romantic love interest that his character Robin has in this new story.
Finally, we spoke to Jim Howick about coming back as his character Pat Butcher, and how he hoped they had created something fun for newcomers as well as fans of the series. He also revealed the brilliant and organic way in which he was part of the original writers’ team and how they all collaborated on the new storylines and were immediately on the same page in terms of the scripts.
