Educate yourself in the wonders of CAD

For jewellers the days of doing everything by hand are far behind them. They are no longer sitting at their workbench fixated with the A-Z of their new creation.  With modern technology, the jewellery trade (as well as other industries) have evolved where it is now possible to save time and money. The technology is called Computer Aided Design (CAD).

You do not need to be an engineer or someone in IT to be using this, nor be able to understand it.  There is hope for all of us.

To break it down simply, imagine you have sketched a ring for a client. Normally you would have designed it in all your perspective views: top view, front view and side view. Scan your sketch and upload in a function called “Draft Kit”. Hooray! You’ve done the first part. Your sketch will then be transformed into a box where you need only ensure that the curves you draw in the software coincide with your original drawing.

If this process intrigues you, why not attend an introduction to 3Design CAD software held at the Holts Academy for Jewellery in the heart of the jewellery quarter, Hatton garden?

On Friday the 15th of June you will get the opportunity to see for yourself how easy it is to generate your design. The day itself will allow you to first watch, then replicate what you have seen. This is a hands-on experience you should not miss if you are passionate about design and want to advance in your business.

Since CAD is all about saving time, 3Design has a unique feature that sets it apart from all other software out there. Imagine you have a customer adore your design, but wanting the centre stone to be a princess instead of a brilliant cut and wondering whether it will be to her liking or not. With a simple click of a button by modifying the stone, the ring is transformed into what the client wants. She is ready to pay! You have managed to sell your piece within minutes and wipe away any doubt she might have had!
