Tom Ford to show in London for the first time as London Collections: Men returns

The British Fashion Council has announced that Tom Ford will show his AW12/13 menswear collection in London for the first time this January at London Collections: Men.

“I am very pleased to be showing my menswear collection in London next January. London has a vibrancy that is inspiring and much of what I create for men takes its inspiration from traditional British menswear,” Tom Ford told the Telegraph. “My clothes are designed with an international customer in mind, and London is one of the most international cities on the planet.”

Ford rose to international acclaim and household name status whilst working at Gucci and is credited for the brand’s revival and for giving it a much needed injection of high octane sex appeal under his reign. Having left the Gucci Group in 2004, the designer debuted his eponymous menswear line in 2006 (womenswear followed later in 2010, with a collection modelled by Beyoncé and Lauren Hutton) and is favoured by the likes of Brad Pitt. Daniel Craig will again be dressed exclusively in his designs as James Bond in the upcoming film, Skyfall.

London Collections: Men launched with great fanfare this past June with the intention of providing a stand-alone platform that showcases British menswear designers (prior to this, Menswear had been a tag on day at the end of London Fashion Week). Needless to say, it was a triumph, and so well received both at home and internationally by the fashion industry and press that it has just been confirmed by the BFC that LC:M will return in January for its second outing.

Dylan Jones, the editor of GQ, will chair on the event in a new role that will see him work alongside the BFC for the next two years, helping to develop the capital’s new menswear showcase as a bi-annual event. Jones heads up an impressive menswear committee dedicated to the development of LC:M that reads like a Who’s Who of the British fashion and arts worlds. The committee includes amongst others, actor Douglas Booth, Harvey Nichols fashion director Paul Reed, artist Tracey Emin, Tom Hiddlestone, Christopher Bailey, Harold Tillman, David Gandy, Lulu Kennedy, Tinie Tempah and Tom Ford himself. A Texan transplant London is slowly making its own.
